I was excited about testing this product from Downy. I had seen all the commercials since it came out, but I hadn't really decided on whether my clothes needed a scent boost. We use so many things to make ourselves perfumed and to smell fresh that although I was tempted, I really couldn't bring myself to decide if I really wanted another layer of smell on me.
Then I washed my dog's clothes.
I regularly use a brand name detergent that works well and has my clothes smelling fresh for days so in no way am I blaming this on the detergent. I popped my little Pinto's clothes in the washer along with one of his beds and his blanket. Once they were dry, I'm not sure why but, I decided to take a sniff and no, it didn't smell like dirty, wet dog, but it did not smell fresh at all. I love my dog, but he is an active thing that loves to run, be out in the sun and cause all sorts of mayhem so, it's understandable that his clothes end up smelling a little stronger than other dogs. I decided to use him as an excuse and drove down to the store and bought this
I got there with the Downy product already in mind, but to my surprise there is a whole group of companies making these. Downy is by no means your only option. I chose the Pink one called Spring, the smell is more towards the perfumed side than the blue bottle. I brought the bottle in and took the pic, I proceeded to read the instructions which are kind of vague. Basically throw in as little or much as you want in the washer with the detergent and wash. Pinto is a Chihuahua, small clothes, and bed. I figured it wouldn't need much so I threw some of the halved beads into the pink cap (about a half a cap) and started the wash. When I went back into the laundry room, the room smelled
very strongly, I pulled the wet laundry out and problem solved. They smelled very nice, the scent wasn't as strong as i'd expect however. Once I dried the clothes and pulled
them out I noticed the scent was a little less, but overall it was still there.
The bottle promises up to 12 weeks of freshness if the articles are out of storage... Not sure if that's accurate, I don't think that this scent will last 12 weeks, It doesn't seem strong enough for that, but I guess that if you add more, it's very possible. Overall, The scent is very nice, the bottle will last me a while, It delivers the results and is not that expensive since one of the smaller (not so small) bottles costs about 6 bucks.
*****Bonus Life Hack***** IF you sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of this in a little baby food jar (or any other small, open container) and leave it open or pop a few holes on the jar's top, this makes a great air freshener. I have it in my car and it's been working wonderful. I'm going to be doing this around the house as well.
